Why is Doc called "Doc"?

Where did "Doc" get that nickname?
This is a question often asked during RAD. it's a short question with a rather long answer. In the later 1980's Dr. Housholder was Middle School Principal and an 8th Grade Home Room Teacher at Woodstock School in India. The boys in his 8th grade class formed sort of a club and gave "code names" to each other. Soumya, for example, became "Sam," and Rohit was known as "Rho." It was Soumya who gave Dr. Housholder the nickname of "Mr. Doc."
It didn't take too long before all the 8th grade students were refering to him simply as "Doc." That nickname then spread around the whole school, elementary through high school. And Mrs. Housholder became known simply as "Mrs. H."
One high school student who got to know Dr. Housholder as "Doc" was Joash Raj who came to Woodstock starting in his 10th grade year and still, now many years later, still calls him "Doc" (and Mrs. Housholder as "Mrs H"), but now Joash is the Housholders' son-in-law, married to their daughter, Rebecca.
In 1997, when Joash and Rebecca were engaged to be married, they both came to Indian Springs to help lead the first RAD Project (Joash was our first music and worship leader). And he refered to the Housholders as "Doc" and "Mrs H." And so the nickname, first applied in an international boarding school in India, became the standard at Indian Springs!
